The Smoky Mountains, the tallest mountains east of the Mississippi, contain a great variety of tree species, including many that display fine fall foliage. Starting at higher elevations in early October, and ending almost a month later at lower elevations, the Smokies offer some of the best foliage displays on the planet. Locations shown here include the Newfound Gap Road and the Cherohala Skyway.
